News and Exhibitions for Wylie Sofia Garcia View this email in your browser With My Voice, I am Calling You Home January 20, 2017 - April 8, 2017, BCA Center With My Voice, I Am Calling You Home presents a new body of work by  artist Wylie Sofia Garcia whose richly patterned paintings and lenticular prints embody themes of domesticity, meditation, and personal place making.  Garcia's allover compositions and veiled imagery draw upon ideas of feminine domesticity and traditional handicraft. Embroidery stitches, elegant lace, and lush fabrics are reinterpreted in two-dimensional form as layered hash marks and decorative, overlapping patterns that work in counterpoint between surface and depth, revelation and concealment. The artist's paintings are as much a meditative practice and time of reflection as they are a creative endeavor. Through the daily ritual of art making, Garcia sorts and creates space for the thoughts, preoccupations, and activities of her day. Imbued with emotional connotations, these artworks and moments create a physical and metaphorical place for Garcia – a space to embrace her roles as an artist, wife, and mother – and a place of familiar, everyday comforts where one can call home.  Reception: Friday, January 20th, 6pm-8pm Artist at Work: Wylie Sofia Garcia February 16, 2017, 6:00PM - 7:30PM Join us for the first program in a new series featuring BCA's 2016 Barbara Smail Award winner, Wylie Sofia Garcia, who will talk on the paintings and lenticular prints featured in her current exhibition followed by an artist-led discussion on professional resources and opportunities. A networking reception for artists and community will be hosted by BCA. Artist at Work: Wylie Sofia Garcia is held in conjunction with BCA's exhibition With My Voice, I Am Calling You Home.   Artist at Work is a new series that explores art and professional practice in a 90 minute, two-part format: artist talk followed by moderated discussion on professional development topics. The work focuses on layered images and uses veiled spaces influenced by textiles, lace, embroidery and stitches as sources in order to make visual something sensual, feminine, and resonant. The work reflects a kind of momentary meditation on being in between places. On View at  The School House Gallery.
