About the June Auction

In the poem, May Day, by Ralph Waldo Emerson he asks ...What potent blood hath modest May, What fiery force the earth renews...

 

In late May many towns and cities in the Midwestern and Southern United States learned how quickly modesty can turn into devastation.  With relief efforts underway for the people, families, and businesses in towns like Joplin, Missouri, the June Art Aution will donate 50% of all proceeds to The Community Foundation of Kansas City who are awarding organizations addressing the immediate needs of the victims of the tornadoes including food, shelter, medical care and supplies. 

 

The art represented by this auction has been provided by Wylie Sofia Garcia and Clark Derbes.

 

Clark Derbes (born 1978, New Orleans, Louisiana) is a visual artist and sculptor. He is a founding member of the "Mississippi River School" of painting. He also founded "Clark's Public Art School" a free online venue to educate, inspire and create art for the public (www.publicartschool.com).  He is represented by Ann Connelly Fine Art in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and by the School House Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts. 

 

Wylie Sofia Garcia (born 1980, Houston, Texas) is a sculptor and performance artist.  She received her BA from the University of Chicago and her MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.  She is currently working on a year long performance called The Dress That Makes The Woman (http://dressthatmakesthewoman.blogspot.com).  She believes in the power of art philanthropy.
